009: I love the way you move.

Happy... Feast day of Saints Cyril and Methodius!

I'm down to six bucks. I'm in the final stretch. It's been an emotional and stressful period, I must say. I don't know how I made it. But I did, and I thank you all for your supportive comments.

I did end up spending money yesterday. My friend and I split an appetizer. Meh. I wanted to save that money, but I just felt self-conscious about not ordering anything. I'll really have to get over that or just not go out.

I watched the Opening Ceremonies in Robson Square on Friday night. As I have friends and family in the US, I was extremely dismayed when almost everybody else started to boo when the Americans came out. Aren't the Olympics supposed to bring the world together? So I cheered as loudly as I could. I don't care if I annoyed anyone. If I ever end up moving back to the United States (a strong possibility, as I have a green card), I will eventually apply for citizenship, anyway.

I also found out that I don't need to deposit my checks in person at the bank. They only put a hold on portions over a thousand dollars. What on earth? The guy on the phone apologised on behalf of the teller who had "grossly misinformed [me]." No kidding.

I just realised that maybe I'll be going through another rough patch after the next pay period on February 26. It is only a nine-day pay period, and I will be paying off the rest of my phone bill and my rent. I keep forgetting to contact Telus about getting a $100.00 refund on a bill I accidentally paid to them back in May, but I imagine that will take a while to process.

i don't know if this will help you, but what i do with our bills is work out the cost of all our bills for an entire year, then divide that by 52 and put that portion aside every week. then i have the money for bills whenever they come along, and don't have to worry about big bills that come up together.

LOL, me too, CB! I thought mainly Europeans hated us. Oh well...

Actually, what I've learned from having British friends and marrying an Englishman is that many Europeans love Americans, they just hate America. If that makes sense. Wink

It's funny, i watched the opening ceremonies on TV, and everyone cheered when the Americans came. At the time i remember feeling a little surprised by all that good will.

The one thing that I have noticed is that if you say you are from the United States instead of from America, you get a much warmer welcome. I've only done this from three countries I've visited: Canada, Mexico, France (Paris). I've been very mindful of it for 25 years - ever since a Canadian friend sighed and reminded us that we aren't even the only country in North America, not to mention "America".

Oh yes, don't forget about that $100 refund. Even if its just starting the paperwork. That's money on the table that you need way more than they do. Smile
